Incorporated as a non-profit society in 1985, the Vancouver Eastside Educational Enrichment Society (VEEES) has designed, sponsored, and successfully implemented a variety of federally and provincially funded programs including employment, training and placement programs, employment resource centres, and Case Management services.

For over 22 years these programs have provided and delivered a full range of skills: literacy, job readiness, lifeskills, and pre-employment training. VEEES programs have been funded by both federal and provincial employment ministries and Correctional Services Canada (CSC). Below is a brief outline (previous and current VEEES projects name; date of service; funder; type of service; participant profile) of lifeskills/pre-employment and employment service/programs VEEES has delivered since 1985:

Alternatives in Action (AIA):
1986 to 1994; HRDC; lifeskills/pre-employment workshops/placements; male and female ex-offenders, street people, income assistance recipients

CSC/VEEES Lifeskills:
1990 to 1993; Correctional Service of Canada; transition/reintegration lifeskills; offenders in CSC institutions

Learning Front:
1989 -1991; CEIC; lifeskills and literacy tutor training; male and female GED graduates from Carnegie Community Centre on income assistance.

jobSTART:
1990 to 1995; HRDC; lifeskills and pre-employment training/job placement; male and female ex-offenders on income assistance

Parents and Children for Education and Employment (PACE2):
1995 to 1999; MHR Community Service Funds; lifeskills and pre-employment training/job placement; Vancouver eastside parents (mainly women) on income assistance.

jobSTART:
1990 - 1995; HRDC; lifeskills and pre-employment training/job placement; male and female ex-offenders on income assistance.

newSTART:
1998 - June 27, 2003; MHR/MCAWS; lifeskills and pre-employment training/job placement; female BCEA/BCIA recipients who have experienced violence and/or abuse

SFU/VEEES Pilot:
February to May, 1999 (12 weeks); MHR; lifeskills and pre-employment training/job placement; male income assistance recipients with addiction issues

newCHAPTER/Drive:
October 1, 1999 to May 31, 2002; HRDC; Mutual Case Management (BCEA recipients) and Employment Resource Centre; all unemployed (male and female)

newTARGET:
September 17, 2001 to March 31, 2003; HRDC; targeted wage subsidy; Mutual Case Managed clients/BCEA recipients

newCHAPTER/Drive:
June 1, 2002 to June 30, 2007; HRSDC/Service Canada; Community Employment Resource Centre/Case Management Unit; open free of charge to all Canadian residents (CURRENT)
